Faculty member attended UNGCNI Program on Circular Economy for the SDGs: From Concept to Practice

Dr. Rajeev Johari and Dr. Indraneel Mandal faculty members of I.T.S School of Management, Ghaziabad & Institute of Technology and Science, Ghaziabad attended UN Global Compact Network India’s Sustainability Program “Circular Economy for the SDGs: From Concept to Practice” on 31st January, 2023 at Hyatt Regancy Hotel, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi. 

 

The programme began with the opening remarks and welcome by Mr Arun Kumar Singh, CMD, ONGC, and President UN GCNI. This was followed by the special address (via video) by René Van Berkel, UNIDO representative and Head, Regional Office in India, where he held forth on the circular economy; take, make and recycle approach; and the replacement of the traditional 3Rs. Then Mr. Hindol Sengupta, Chief Economic Research Officer and VP, Invest India, explained the research done in this area, including the use of materials like bamboo. He also discussed how the circular economy is related to SDGs, using the acronym GST (Gender, Sustainability and Transitivity). The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sivasubramanian Ramann, CMO of SIDBI. Mr Ramann spoke of the need for a bottom up approach, and how India has had a centuries old relationship with the circular economy. The inaugural address was given by Dr Rakesh Sarwal, CMD, National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation. He pointed out the relation between affluence, consumerism and waste, session ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UN GCNI.

The inaugural session was followed by a session on the theme Business Commitment: Integration of Circular Economy Practices by Businesses to achieve SDGs.

The panelists of the session are:

·         Ms. Priyanka Tanwar, Leader Communications and Corporate Responsibility Asia, Lixil

The session was moderated by Dr Ratnesh Jha.

The deliberations centred on different aspects of renewable energy and how that played into the circular economy.

Session 2 had the theme Uncomplicate Technology: Technology as a Catalyst to integrate Circular Economy/Waste to Wealth into Business Models and to reach the last mile.

The panelists of the session are:

·         Dr Shilpi Jain, Professor of Data Sciences;

·         Mr Alok Lall, Customer Success Lead – IteS, Microsoft;

·         Mr Mohit Narain, MD, Environmentors Perpetuity Solutions and Services Pvt. Ltd.

The moderator was Ms. Sonia Duhan, AVP, Invest India. The discussion proceeded on how technology can contribute to the circular economy.

Session 3 was based on the theme Policy Framework, Governance and Financing to  strengthen the implementation of Circular Economy Practices.

The panelists of the session are:

·         Mr Ashwin Saxena, CEO, JSW Foundation;

·         Dr Ulac Demirag, Country Director and Representative, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD);

·         Ms. Shuva Raha, Head – New Initiatives Council on Energy, Environment and Water, CEEW.

The moderator for the session was Mr Vishvesh Prabhaka from Accenture, The discussion centred on policy initiatives in this space.

Session 4 had the theme addressing the Challenges: Best Practices and Global Trends in Circular Economy/Waste to Wealth Generation Practices by Businesses/Non-Businesses.

All in all, it was a very comprehensive examination of various aspects of the circular economy, with the practitioners and policy makers providing a ringside view of the thought processes in this field.

The students of PGDM I Year ( 2022-24) Batch from I.T.S School of Management, Ghaziabad namely  Abhishek Kumar, Ansul Taragi,  Divya Singh, Astha Tiwari, Karan Kumar, Kunal Singh, Pankaj Garg, Simran Srivastava, Udita Rastogi, Vikash Gautam, Himanshu Gautam along with management faculty members Dr. Anusha Agarwal and Prof. Durba Roy  attend the  FICCI’s 95th Annual Convention on the theme of “INDIA @ 100: AMRIT KAAL, SUSTAINABLE & INCLUSIVE” organized by FICCI (The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry ) on 16th – 17th December, 2022 at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi

 

The event become more special for I.T.S School of Management as students get the edge in media coverage by Times Today as the students group photograph was printed in Trending Now column.

On day one, during the inaugural session,  Mr. Sanjeev Mehta, President, FICCI & CEO & Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), welcomed the distinguished guests Honourable Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Ms. Nirmala Sitaraman, and Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman TATA Sons Pvt. Ltd.

The next session was a panel discussion comprising CEOs from the Corporate. The distinguished panellists comprised Dr. Anish Shah, Mr. Hitendra Dave, Mr. Vipul Tuli, Mr. Ankur Gupta. The session was moderated by Mr. Alok Kshirsagar. The theme focussed on a very pertinent topic- “ How to achieve the vision of creating a New India”. This session was also addressed by the Honourable Minister for Road Transport and Highways(GOI), Mr. Nitin Gadkari through a virtual mode.

The Panellists of the last Panel Discussion comprised Ms. Kalpana Morparia, Smt. Soma Mandal; Ms. NainaLal Kidwai; Ms. Prabha Narsimhan, who represented  “Women in Leadership” . They reached to dizzy heights in the corporate by stint of their hard work despite of the harsh challanges in  the professional world.   Moderator: Ms. Shereen Bhan, famous  TV journalist moderated the session.

On December 17, Honourable Defence Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh, addressed the august gathering. He exhorted that Government is committed to increase the Defence production target from $ 12 billion to $ 22 billion by 2025. The closing remarks were given by Mr. Sanjeev Mehta while Vote of Thanks was extended to distinguished guests by Mr. Subhrakant Panda. The budding managers of ITS School of Management had a rare glimpse of corporate functioning and knowledge sharing.  This had also enhanced their PR skills too.

PGDM (2022-24) Batch students of I.T.S School of Management, Ghaziabad namely Vani Gaur, Saloni Gupta, Sundari Tomar, Vaibhav Agarwal, Dharna Taneja, Utkarsh Rai, Varnika Gupta, Tanzil Verma,  Harish Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Maanyata along with faculty member Dr. Rajeev Johari attended PHDCCI flagship program on ‘Public Policy and Governance States’ Policy Conclave 2022 on the theme “Make in India, Make for the World” on Monday, 12th  of December 2022 at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi

The panel discussion sessions focused on some of the key areas such as: Agriculture & Food Processing; Make in India, Make for India and the world; Making India a “Service Hub” ; Invest in India; Recalibrating India’s Export Potential; Education & Employable Skilling; Decentralising Entrepreneurship; Boosting MSMEs; Innovation & New Technology; Healthcare; Culture & Tourism; Energy & Infrastructure; Science & Technology; IT & ITES; Cooperative Movement; Green Mobility & Alternate Fuel Technology; CSR & ESG Sustainability; Climate Change & Action.

Introduction of the session was done by Shri Ranjeet Mehta who is currently the Deputy Secretary General of PHDCCI, on climate and sustainable development. Giving momentum in policy space, celebrating the ongoing Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, PHDCCI’s flagship program on public policy and governance, the event was graced by Hon’ble Union Minister of Ministry of MSME, Government of India Shri Narayan Rane and Hon'ble Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh Sanitation and Human Rights Movement. This was followed by panel speakers Smt. R Vanitha, Chief Director (Corporate Communications & International Cooperation), National Cooperative Development Corporation and other dignitaries from the industry and state policy makers and different secretaries level who shared their views and suggested relevant points for further betterment of the execution the policy at state level.

The Conclave was addressed by leading decision-makers from government, industry and diplomatic community. Hon’ble Shri Sudhakar S. Kini, Chief Architect, Sulabh, presented his experience and observations in sanitation sector having been associated with the largest NGO for nearly four decades.

The sessions were learning - oriented and meaningful for the students in terms of their exposure to corporate culture and administrative functions.  The event provided a unique opportunity of interaction to participants at both national and global levels.

Participation as a session chair in the 7th International Conference

Dr. Anusha Agarwal, I.T.S School of Management, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad has been invited by KIET School of Management in association with SWOSU (USA); Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology

 

(Uzbekistan) and Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (India) to Chair a Technical session in the 7th International Conference (Online) on the theme ‘Advances in Global Businesses, Economics, Finance and Social Science’ on   11th  November, 2022.

The objective of the conference was to provide a common platform for researchers from the Academia as well as the Industry to discuss and present their research work by providing an opportunity for collaboration among them. Various research papers on the above mentioned theme were presented in the conference. 

The papers were presented by academicians, Research scholars, and Executives from industry in different areas from different parts of the world, Ethiopia, Indonesia to name a few. Overall the session was more on the research papers dealing with real problems and scenario in multidisciplinary areas. It was a rich learning opportunity for the participants and all. The interactive nature of the session further added great learning. The feedback was given to the participants on one to one basis along with suggestions for continuing their research in their area of interest. At last the concluding remark and best wishes was given to all participants for their research in future.

Overall the experience was enriching and overwhelming.

CyberComm – 2022

Management student of PGDM (2022-24) batch along with faculty members  Dr. Neeraj Sanghi and Dr. Maynak Sharma attended CyberComm 2022 "Accelerating the Evolution of Cybersecurity in India" on 18th October, 2022 at FICCI, New Delhi.   I.T.S School of Management, Ghaziabad was academic sponsor for the event.

In the inaugural session on the theme “Government’s Vision around The Changing Paradigm of Cyber–Security Landscape in India”, Mr. Ashutosh Chadha Senior Member, IT and ITes committee, FICCI discussed about technology empowerment in the society during pandemic & elaborated about the whole chain of cyber security.

Dr. Ajay Data, Co-chair, IT and ITeS committee, FICCI joined virtually and briefed about the importance of cyber security in this uncertain cyber world.

Dr. Sanjay Bahl Director General, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India briefed about the operations and securities of the cyber attacks and how security is the pillar of any digital platform.

Lt. General (Dr) Rajesh Pant, National Cyber Security Coordinator, and Special Secretary to the Government of India stated some interesting facts like India is in 10th Rank in cyber security in the world.

After the inaugural session there was a Panel discussion on “Embracing Emerging Technologies for Securing our digital environment”, Moderated by Dr Saurabhi Pandey, Assistant Professor Indian Institute of Public Administration, Government of India. Panel members included:

In the post lunch session, there was a special address on India’s Digital Public Goods Approach to Cyber Security by Mr. Arvind Gupta, Head Digital India Foundation. He briefed about Digital India campaign’s journey from its launch in 2014 to now India’s being No. 1 in terms of mobile users in comparison to 155 countries.

It was followed by a panel discussion on “Policy Intervention and Harmonisation for Balancing Innovation and Security” chaired by Prof. Rajat Moona , Director, IIT- Gandhi Nagar and moderated by Ms Aparna Gaur, Leader, IP, TMT and Cyber Security Practices, Nishit Desai and Associates. The panel comprised of stalwarts:

·         Dr Subi Chaturvedi, Global SVP, Chief Corporate Affairs & Policy Officer, InMobi Group

·         Mr Subrata Kumar Mitra, Head- Government & Industry Relations, Ericsson India.

Dr. Amit Andre, Chief Executive Officer, the Data Tech Labs Inc. gave a case study presentation on “IT Budgets – Measuring the Value of your Cyber Security Investment”

Towards the end Mr. Amit Dubey, Co- Founder, India Future Foundation focused on the some real life story sharing of cyber-crime incidents and how we can protect ourselves from them by adhering to very basic cyber protocols.

Management Faculty attended “10th Awanish Dev Memorial Lecture”

Dr. Vivek Pachauri and Dr. Shikha Arora from I.T.S School of Management, Mohan Nagar  attended the “10th Awanish Dev Memorial Lecture” on 28th September 2022 at Radisson Blu Plaza, NH-8, Near Airport, New Delhi.

 

The Maruti Suzuki XISS Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Trust organized the lecture with the support of NHRD Network & Maruti Suzuki. The theme of the lecture was – “Future of industrial Relations : Competitive Edge, Digitization & Transformation” .

The welcome address was delivered by Mr. S.Y Siddiqui, Exec Advisor, Maruti Suzuki.The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Hishashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki and Mr. Manish Sharma MD & CEO Panasonic India. They talked about the emerging trends in context of the working environment particularly in the post covid times. The need for engaging the workforce at the workplace and building harmonious industrial relations was highlighted by the eminent speakers.

This was followed by the Fireside Chat on “Future of Industrial Relations: Competitive Edge, Digitization & Transformation.” The session was moderated by Mr. SV Nathan, Partner and Chief Talent Officer, Deloitte India, National President, NHRDN and the panellists were Dr. Ranjan K Mahapatra, Director HR – Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and Dr. C Jayakumar, Executive Vice President & Head – Corporate HR, Larsen & Toubro Ltd.

Further , there was an insightful Corporate Panel Discussion on the theme “Aligning ER Strategy in the New World Order” which was moderated by Mr. Rajiv Dubey, Chairman, Mahindra First Choice Wheels Ltd and the eminent panellists were Ms. Vishpala Reddy ,CHRO, Philips Indian Subcontinent, Mr. Sandeep DSilva Principal Employee Relations, Infosys Ltd., Ms. Aakanksha Lath, Director HR, MakeMyTrip, Mr. Ratan Agarwal , Sr.General Manager HR & Lead Hero Academy, Mr. Shakshar Guha,  Head ER, WIPRO Consumer Care and Lighting.

I.T.S School of Management PGDM batch (2021-23) students namely Ishvi Chaudhary, Akshay Ashish, Aditya Barnwal, Hemendra Singh, Sourabh Kumar, Deepanshu Gupta along with Prof. Yachana Malhotra attended the ‘’CII International Technology Summit 2022 -Technology 4.0 Adoption, Adaptation & Enterprise Transformation: The Next Big Leap” scheduled on 19th  September 2022 at The Lalit Hotel, Delhi.

 

The Chief Guest of the summit was Shri Kailash Gahlot Hon”ble Minister- Information &Technology, Administrative Reforms, Transport, Revenue, Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs, Women and Child Development and Government of  NCT of Delhi.

The session was inaugurated with the opening remarks of Mr. Vijay Rai Chairman of CLL Delhi Panel of technology. Mr. Rai talked about Industry Revolution & Evolution.

Workshop on Qualitative Case study Research

Prof. Parul Gupta and Prof. Charul Agrawal attended one day workshop on Qualitative Case study Research at BIMTECH, Greater Noida on 17th September 2022. The speakers were   Prof. Ajoy Kumar Dey and Dr. Shreya Mishra from BIMTECH.

The workshop was focused on formulating research case studies. Dr. Shreya took a comprehensive session where she emphasized on the essentials of writing and publishing a Research case. She shared umpteen examples on how teaching case is different from research case. She also deliberated with the participants as to how they can develop recent contexts into Research Cases.

Prof. Dey explained the inductive and deductive method of data analysis and where each can be used.  He further elaborated on how Qualitative Research case writing is still in its nascent stage and needs more and more contributors for it to emerge as a new domain.

At the end of the session all the participants discussed their individual cases which was duly supported by Dr. Shreya and Dr. Dey with their valuable suggestions for improvement. Certificate of participation was also given.

The workshop was also attended by participants from Amity University, DME Noida, Manav Rachna University.
