FDP Session by Dr. Vijesh Jain on Principles of Sustainable Competitive Advantage

“A FDP was organised on 29th June, Thursday at I.T.S, Ghaziabad campus. The topic of the FDP was - Principles of 'Sustainable Competitive Advantage'. The main speaker of the session was Dr. Vijesh Jain, Professor, I.T.S, Ghaziabad. The FDP covered several topics of current interest in strategic management, marketing and governance based on the theme of the topic. The changing role of the business in society in the current context was deliberated and discussed among the participating faculty members who asked several questions to the speaker and which were duly debated. The session was highly interactive and intense in nature. The participant reported that the discussion was very useful for bringing about change in the direction of management concepts being taught in the class and will help update the concepts with the changing business and geopolitical environment across the world.

The FDP covered several new theories propounded by Sir Michael Porter including the theory of Scale, theory of shared value, theory of advantage by cluster approach and other ideas. These ideas are in line with the current changes taking place in businesses. It was argued by the speaker that the perception of entrepreneur about what their business does in the society and perception about the society what a business does are converging for good and so are the goals of the businesses and the governments. It was further argued that government partnership with businesses is must in the current context for the benefit of the business as well as the society. It was also discussed that governments and NGOs have limited resources to carry out welfare job effectively. This gap can be filled by the role of businesses as societal problem solver rather than societal problems creator.
